Downward Spiral of Society

15.08.2024 (9:47 am) – Filed under: Epic Failures,Humanity,Pro Bono Philosophy

Several months ago, perhaps as much as a year ago, I realized something. I already knew that we [Americans] as a society are living with our heads in the sand. What then, did I realize a year ago? It doesn’t matter what truth is revealed, it doesn’t matter who reveals that truth, it doesn’t matter the clout the influencer has, if what I consider to be “the truth” is ever proven and released to the general public that we as a society are heading toward a complete and total collapse of the American Way of Life® – nothing will ever be done. No words will reverse this trend. It’s going to happen and there’s no stopping it. There’s not enough backbone left in America to make it happen, which I believe stems from my theory that everything is corrupt, there’s no ethics left in society and morality is lost.

What’s caused this?

  • Greed
  • Gluttony
  • Envy
  • Lust
  • Vanity

Yes, this list has religious undertones, but they’re also a common problem with society, regardless of religious intent or not.

How is everything corrupt?

There’s not a single person that I know of, friend or otherwise, that are 100% ethical. That’s not to say it’s proof of my theory, however, when you can’t rely on anyone to not “use the buddy system” for favor, there’s a problem. Everyone, every person I know, do unethical things. Most people I know devoutly religious or not, are immoral to a certain degree. Cognitive biases disallow them the ability to see it.

I myself, have my own shortfalls, faults, immoral and unethical moments, but I do realize it and live with it. I don’t turn a blind eye to my own transgressions, I have plenty of faults. I am sure, others are knowingly doing the same thing – and living with it.

Until we can turn inwards and make changes to ourselves, no amount of pressure put forth from society will make those changes come to fruition.

Ancient History

11.06.2024 (9:38 am) – Filed under: Humanity,Interesting Theories,Pro Bono Philosophy

I would like to postulate that studying ancient history, for the sake of “knowing about ancient history” is wasteful in that it takes away too much limited human resources (great minds) from areas better served by those minds, such as future tech research, medical research, economics, and an entire list of sciences that would be more beneficial to humanity. While we spend time researching when the horse became central to human civilization, while we study when farming began in Mesopotamia, while we search for the dagger of Brutus, other areas more important to human civilization are understaffed.

I am a history buff, I love ancient history, I love learning about it through books and documentaries (unbiased). I would be less fulfilled without the knowledge I have acquired concerning said topics. Even still, I realize that what I’ve learned is useless in the grand scheme of things. My admiration of Archimedes is without limits. I absolutely love learning more about Genghis Khan, Atilla the Hun, Plato, Socrates, The Books Thomas, Truth and Mary Magdalene. Such knowledge, while individually important, doesn’t help humanity to grow. One could argue that if all of society studied such, our civilization would benefit – but we know that only a small percentage of folks will delve into the classics (of anything, any specialty of society). And I am of around average intelligence (for human kind, not perhaps for certain groups).

We have a finite limit of genius level individuals capable of making the “next great leap” in _____insert any new innovation_____. Coupled with that, therein lies exceptionalism that is necessary for these individuals to take that step. Genius does  not beget accomplishment. It’s a well known fact that there are genius level intellects all around us (even though you may not be aware of this) – individuals that NEVER CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIETY in a meaningful way, due to a variety of reasons such as poor physical health, poor mental health, lack of ambition, lack of opportunity, abuse, neglect, simple unwillingness to participate (for a variety of reasons). Exceptionalism + intellect do not necessarily go hand-in-hand. Therefore, the number of genius level individuals capable of making that “next great leap” is further diluted by the lack of their ability to be exceptional. For instance, take High School Athletes, an individual may have the physical prowess to be break records running the 100 meter dash, however, if that person cannot keep their head straight, they’ll beat themselves before taking to the blocks. While their ability is still there, their lack of focus, drive, determination or mental stamina may preclude them from taking the record. Situations such as this takes these folks out of the running for the win. Same with academics. We place so much pressure on individuals with said genius, they may break before the final results are delivered.

By stopping with useless studies, how about we try to focus those that have the abilities and the exceptionalism to toward more important feats of study.

The U.S. military has certain job roles available at any given time. Recruiters are given lists of available slots. When someone tests for the military, only those roles that are needed are offered. If the recruit doesn’t want to do any of those things listed, that’s their choice, but no other offers are made outside of those roles the military needs. To a certain degree, the recruits have choices, but those choices are limited. Square peg, square hole. Everyone wants unlimited personal choices – even when their choices have no benefit what-so-ever to society. Therein lies the conundrum. Free will, liberty, freedom in general, vs. the good of society. Should society set rules governing what a person should be allowed to do with their intellect? No. Should society be manicured to push individuals along the path that benefits us more, without making these choices mandatory? Probably. How about, instead of telling folks “….you can be anything you want.” – we transform that by first stating, “…if we had more people like you working in experimental physics, exploration outside the solar system may be possible.” Folks want to believe that someone with the ability to do experimental physics will end up working in experimental physics, and that’s simply not the case. A few will, but some won’t. Some may in fact turn toward a career in archeology, perhaps specializing in the archeology of some mundane culture that ultimately did not contribute anything to civilization. While that may be important to a select few decedents of said culture, it’s a dead end that will never yield any benefits what-so-ever to society.

How many garage bands do we need that incorporates a child prodigy? How many mathematicians wind up becoming accountants, rather than theoretical physicists?

By no means would I ever consider forcing someone to do something they don’t want to do. Never. I just think that more emphasis should be placed on certain fields of study in order to recruit more human resources to participate in these fields, rather than pointing toward a more open environment. Why not place a monetary interest in these fields, increasing funding for scholarships toward these fields and completely dropping scholarships for underwater basket weaving? If a person doesn’t want to study a field that’s backed by more scholarships, that’s still their choice, a choice that will ultimately cost them more money, because less scholarships will be available. Such a change would be a massive undertaking, perhaps impossible. The fact remains, more folks are needed to explore the possibilities of the future, rather than study what already occurred.

Let’s Break It Down

Here are the major reasons I get upset with what’s going on in the World:

1) People trampling on the Constitution of the United States of America.

1a) People assuming the U.S. should be the World’s Police Force. Fuck ’em, let them do their own dirty work!

2) Socialism (and neo communism), extreme liberals and the liberal elite, primarily George Soros.

3) Global Warming Hoax and how Al Gore (among others) have fleeced the World.

4) Mistreating animals.

5) Decline of volunteerism.

6) Intervention of the Federal Government into States’ Rights.

6a) Bigger Federal Government ≠ Better Government

7) Gun control.

8) Freedom of Speech.

9) The attempt to throw religion out of Government and in contrast, the attempt by “Christians” to state that the United States was founded in the “Christian Faith” when it was really founded on the beliefs of “Freedom of Religion” (non-specific).

I’ll add more as I think of them :-)

Take one step back…

It was only a matter of time. If you think about it, it’s already happened previously in a couple of instances. A suicide bomber has just bombed a Russian Airport. The World has already added many new security features, including Air Marshals, x-ray scanners, full body groping (I like to refer to it as: Free Massage Therapy!) and the like to airplanes and airports. It was only a matter of time before suicide bombers gave up on getting into the actual plane. They’ve taken a step back and blown people to bits inside the airport BEFORE the security checkpoints. Duh? It’s only common sense. Take out as many people as possible. Where would that be? In the long lines of security check points. Don’t wait to get inside or to get on a plane. Blow ’em up before they go past the checkpoints.

What’s next? Security checkpoints at the airport’s entry doors? Then what? The bombers will simply adapt and blow people up outside. This isn’t rocket science. It’s simple friggin logic.

There’s nothing common about “Common Sense”.

09.12.2010 (1:32 pm) – Filed under: Dirge for the Repose of the Moronic,Pro Bono Philosophy

Common Sense, as we knew it, is no more. It’s gone. The vast majority of reasonable people in this World have given into the spin that’s inundating our societies. Nothing is truthful any more. No matter what is talked about, written about or videoed in real-time, caught on film with witnesses to the effect thereof, nothing is truthful. Everything has an angle and someone out there can spin it out of control and outside the realm of reality. Something someone says on video tape, with witnesses to the effect is spun in each direction possible by a plethora of detractors and supporters from every corner of the societies involved. Someone can go on stage and simply state “The car was red.” From that point forward, the truth becomes a matter of media corruption. And, it’s not just the media that’s involved in this type of whoring of data. It’s the common every day folk. One person reads a slant to an event on Facebook that someone else has posted from a fringe website and everything completely balloons out of proportion from that point forward.

Let’s take the case of the Dept. of Agriculture rep Shirley Sherrod and how the video of her was spun in both directions because the originating poster, BigGovernment.com (Breitbart) cropped the video (please don’t say ‘edited’ as that implies, at least to me, some form of falsification, whereby cropping may leave parts out contextually, editing could involve injecting sounds, video, etc.) and supposedly, the video was taken out of context. The Whitehouse almost immediately condemned her words, the NAACP later did the same and finally, when the full context of the video was released, BigGovernment.com did an about-face and condemned the Whitehouse and NAACP for their original condemnation. This story is a multi-level example of how things can be twisted and I for one thought when the video was originally released and in the first hour, that’s exactly what Breitbart wanted to do/show. I further think, that was the ultimate goal without actually getting someone fired, although, a mid-level functionary such as Ms. Sherrod could be used a cannon fodder to prove a point. In the end, I believe she did get her job offered back to her (not looking it up, it’s not important for the process of this post).

There are so many detractors for different events these days, unless you are standing there (and sometimes then, they can spin the crap out of things after-the-fact and make you think that what you saw wasn’t really what you saw), that NOTHING is as it seems. The entire world has turned into “Wag the Dog” with a dose of David Copperfield, David Blane and Chris Angel for good measure. I can guarantee you, any major news story, when read from only one source, can sway your judgement to the point that you are from that point forward, if you don’t immediately seek input from other sources, determined “that’s the way it happened alright.” Again, it’s just not the media, it’s individuals as well. Eye witnesses, setting on chairs, 10 ft. from the event, will give you many different versions of what-happened. They cannot simply give you a chronological list of events as they occur during the activity. They’ll inject their views and opinions into their retelling of the event, making it damn near impossible, unless they’re on the witness stand, under-oath and otherwise being hammered by a top-notch prosecutor, to get the truth, the whole-truth and nothing but the truth, so help them God. They’ll give you an account of what happened alright, but it’s what happened in *their minds* and how the person was affected as a youth by being beaten by his father and how the person had spent time in a Turkish Prison which caused him to like getting it up the arse by a flea infested camel, that’s what happened. Yea.

It’s time people come to realize, the truth matters. It’s not about what-all you can get out of someone with little to no effort. It’s about how much integrity you have and how well you treat your fellow man. The time for “salesperson” mentalities are over. It’s time to quit judging and start witnessing the truth. To witness doesn’t just involved seeing or hearing something happen, it’s about relaying that information to someone else. “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.” Don’t lie! Tell the truth! Stand up for what’s right and just, not for what’s popular at that particular time. Don’t inject opinion where an opinion isn’t warranted. Tell it exactly like it happened. Pass information on to others as if your life depends on the truth to be told. For Pete’s sake, stand for what’s right and not for what you can get right now!

light at the end of the tunnel

After 4 years of a democratically (read: left wing) controlled congress, the U.S. citizenry has spoken at the polls. No more overwhelming odds face our representatives in the House. Pelosi is soon to be history. Finally, one can look at the television screen without seeing that arrogant bitch spouting off her liberal diatribe.

While I am not completely satisfied, as we didn’t win back the Senate, this will be a HUGE help to all of us worried that the leftists bastards were driving this once Great Nation into doom and gloom. While some of you will look at this post as yet another conservative slanted post of mine, you would be incorrect. Those of you with liberal leanings tend to believe that anything that’s not “with you” is conservative are factually incorrect on many levels.

Why do so many Americans align themselves with the platform of the Tea Party? It’s because, most of us feel the same way the multitude of other Tea Partiers feel: We need to get back to the Constitution and retake America for America’s sake!

As Fire Chief, I was recently given an online form to fill out for Fire 20/20. It’s some type of ACORN-esque non-profit feel-good organization bent on aligning government agencies (fire departments) with multiculturalism in America. They wanted to know what we, the fire service, need in my particular area, to make it easier to serve “high risk” citizens. They want to know what language barriers we have and such.

I let them know, that the “african american” culture in our area was the same as the “white american” culture (we don’t have limits to classes around here, we’re all “Americans” and no one is considered sub-standard, if you don’t count the drug heads, which are mostly, if not 99.9% white) are all on an even keel. As for “foreign language speaking” members of our communities, I simply told Fire 20/20, teach the foreigners how to speak english, as that would be less problematic and less expensive than teaching first-responders how to speak a bunch of different languages or having interpreters available. In other words: Learn to speak english or GET THE FUCK OUT of my country.

I have much higher hopes for America now that the election is past. If the dems had maintained control of both houses of Congress, it’s hard to say where this country would head. Pre-election congress was doing everything in it’s power against the American citizen while masquerading as “for the people”. You cannot “tax and spend” your way out of a recession or depression. It’s impossible to increase the financial well-being of society by taxing the citizens. 100% IMPOSSIBLE. The government should never be there to stimulate the economy. The economy should always be controlled first by the demand of the citizens and secondly, by the supply of the providers. Anything else is snake-oil.

America has spoken. The majority rules.

In the last election (’08), I feel that many Americans were led down that dark and gloomy road by government snake-oil salesman. Never underestimate the intelligence of the average American. They’ll see through the sales tactics by the pseudo-leaders and figure out that the snake-oil tastes just like water, bland and sterile.

Sheep

20.07.2009 (9:29 am) – Filed under: Pro Bono Philosophy

Why is it, when quoting from the Bible concerning the “flock” of the Church, the “Shepherd and his sheep” or other generalities involving a metaphor of “Sheep” and “People”, most don’t take this as an insult?

(1 Kings 22:17)  Then Micaiah answered, “I saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep without a shepherd, and the LORD said, ‘These people have no master. Let each one go home in peace.'”

(Psalm 77:20)  You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

(Psalm 78:52)  But he brought his people out like a flock; he led them like sheep through the desert.

(Psalm 79:13)  Then we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will praise you forever; from generation to generation we will recount your praise.

Moses, which I believe was a decent man, a spiritual man and a man decidedly against slavery, was depicted in the Bible as the person that led his flock to the land of Canaan and killed every man, woman, child and domesticated (perhaps other) animal in order to ensure the promised land to the Israelites. As I have said on many occasions, a just God, a merciful God, doesn’t wage war. Man wages war. Man has waged war on the principles he interprets as being “righteous and just”. Man has also led the masses, or “Sheep”, into believing and following a leader hell bent on causes not necessarily in the best interests of mankind as a whole.

Being “Sheep”, in the “Flock” or being led by the Shepherd, isn’t by any means, always a good thing.

(Psalm 44:22)  Yet for your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.

One would think, the above passage came from an extremist Muslim’s interpretation of the Koran, not a direct quote from the Christo-Judeo Bible. Yet, here we are, in the midst of a religeous war in the Middle East, believing that extremist Muslims are the only aggressors. From that passage alone could bring forth a multitude of Judeo-Christians with extreme beliefs justifying their course of violence in an ongoing Holy War. This Holy War is without borders. Violence begets Violence. Turn the other cheek is one part of the Bible soon forgotten.

Life

14.01.2003 (2:50 am) – Filed under: Pro Bono Philosophy

With Billions of Planets; Millions of Stars; Hundreds of Thousands of Galaxies; How is it possible that individuals can be so self-centered, so egotistical, so conceited to think the planet Earth is the only planet in the Universe that contains intelligent life? It baffles the educated mind.
